You don’t know what you’ve got til’ it’s gone.

It really is true that you don’t know what you’ve got til’ it’s gone right?

Freedom day. A day where most of your normal life returns to you. Nothing out of the ordinary but your local cafe, your gym, your shopping centre, your cinema, your bar, your routine. And though prior to these things being taken away they were just another box to tick each week, now they hold special places in your heart.

These are the same places, the same people, however, now they hold a different meaning, a more valuable meaning.

Most of us are guilty of taking things for granted, I know I am from time to time. One thing I find is more commonly taken for granted is health. We’re healthy now so why quit drinking? We’re healthy now so why take up exercise? We’re healthy now so why work on sleep? The truth of the matter is though, with health, you really don’t know what you’ve got til’ it’s gone and unlike with freedom day, sometimes the restrictions can’t be undone.

Some health issues that arise from living an unhealthy lifestyle don’t give you the option of waiting it out and then reversing the rules. Some don’t give you a vaccination to protect yourself from further harm and some don’t even give you any option to rectify past behaviours.

Health is such an important facet of life and one none of us can afford to take for granted. Don’t allow time to surpass, health to diminish and restrictions to be placed on your ability to live your best life. Instead, make every day a freedom day by appreciating what you’ve got and doing everything in your power to keep it.
